Custom Projects

Here's the photo of an elephant design that's part of a little boy's crib bedding that we copied the design for a coordinating pillow for the rocker, and a custom onsie....it turned out so cute!  Grant loved it....or at least his mommy did!  Now if I can just find the photos of the items...I'll be all set!

Fun little touches...

So my husband recently turned 30...and he's the kind of guy that opens all the mail, and every package that is delivered to the house, before I even get home.  He doesn't care who it's to, or who it's from, or if it's junk, he just like the "surprise" of what's inside (even if he's the one that ordered it).  It was no small task to pull off a "surprise" 30th birthday party for him, without him finding out...or snooping.  He was totally shocked when he walked in to the party this July, he didn't even notice the sign on the door at the restaurant or the balloons as he entered and I led him to the board room in the back...didn't even notice that there was no one in the entire restaurant (because it was closed that night...thanks Caroline & Adam for getting us in!).  One thing I love is that he didn't notice the 3 cases of Jones Soda (nicely labeled all over the boxes) that had his surprise party, custom labeled orange cream soda inside...even though he set something on them THE DAY BEFORE THE PARTY!  I thought I was safe hiding things in the guest room...he doesn't go in there...but he did, and he used the boxes and didn't even look inside...is this my husband?  Anyway, he was surprised, and I love how they turned out...he has an orange soda collection, and now he has a dozen with his own self portrait on it and a great reminder of the only surprise I've ever been able to pull off!  Thanks for everyone who came out to make it such a memorable evening!  http://www.myjones.com/

A very cake-y weekend

They say everything comes in 3's?  Fortunately, this weekend it was only in 2's.  This was 2-tier so technically there were 3 cakes involved.  This was a "country" themed wedding shower cake for a neighbor.  She has the little girl who likes cows (see Cow Cake) so I had to throw in a little something "cow".  And the cowboy...I mean...cowgirl hat was a must, but tying in John Deere...that was giving me trouble.  This is what I came up with...I think everyone enjoyed it!

Ole! Another work cake!

I was shocked to find the lack of ideas for a "fiesta" themed cake.  This is what we came up with for the Med-Peds Fiesta BBQ.  My husband made the peppers (he's just way better at sculpting) out of pre-colored fondant, and even added the "flair" detail on top with the Wilton Sparkle Gel writers...with fiesta...more is better!  The best part was the number of people that came up to me and asked if he had actually made the cake...I gave him all the credit for the decorating...they were impressed!  Good job babe!

Alpha Mu Centennial Cake

Less actually was more with this cake (which I ordered...can't take the credit) for our Centennial Celebration.  For girls like like everything glittered it's hard to go simple, but I think this one worked out just perfectly, and there was glitter on the ribbon.  It's amazing what a little tulle...and glittery stars...will do to spice up a white table!

Goldie's Shower Cake

Little Miss Charlotte just graced us with her presence last week...fortunately, we were able to fit in one last baby shower before she showed up!  Here's the cake!  There was so much food at the shower that Daddy got the whole cake to himself and found out he does like fondant!

Student Cakes

I can't take any credit for these, except for being in the room and knowing these great cake people!  These were created by students in my fondant & gumpaste class, they were based on cake ideas they had found, but they added their own flare...I think they turned out great!  Happy cake-ing!

Cow 1st Birthday Cake

So our sweet little neighbor girl really likes cows...not totally sure why, we live in the city, but her great-grandpa has some cows and she just loves cows now!  Pretty crazy for only being one, but here's the cow cake we came up with for her first birthday!  Can't wait to see what she wants this year!

Let them eat cake...

You never know what's going to happen when you offer to bring a cake to a BBQ for your husbands co-workers....and when it's the Infectious Disease department BBQ , you really have a hard time finding the right theme for your cake!  But alas, here's what we came up with for the 2009 ID Department BBQ...my husband tells me that the critters on top (which he crafted) are called ?? and the red border is supposed to look like a diaploid...having never seen a diaploid...he tells me it was close!
